The Lost Tour

It's rare that a television series captivates my attention.  I tried getting into Grey's Anatomy and a few other hits over the years but essentially it was just a huge annoyance waiting an entire week to see the next episode.  That was until Lost came along.  I actually didn't begin watching the series until the end of Season 2.  My husband and I were on a trip to see my in-laws in Hawaii (before actually living here).  We had purchased our first portable DVD player and my husband picked LOST, Season 1 box set as the series to watch.  I had no idea what it was about but I immediately thought he'd 'LOST' his damn mind when he decided to hit play as we reached our cruising altitude.  Ummm...hello??!?!  I really didn't want to watch a plane crash as I'm sitting in 28b.  But by the time our flight had landed (safely...praise God!), I was hooked!

We moved to Hawaii during the last two seasons of the series.  By this time I was a diehard fan.  Several of the characters lived in our town and I, on occasion would make a public display of neurotic crazy fan affection.  Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond) ran and biked in the same area as I took my daily walks.  Eventually I believe he realized that I was basically harmless. He was very kind during all encounters. After a few months I was over being starstruck. No need to get crazy, they are just people too..right?  It was very common to see Hurley, Kate, Jack and Charlie ( I actually don't know their real names) around town.  I resisted the urge to jump at their feet and ask for an autograph.  I just nonchalantly walked by like I had no idea who they were. Apparently that is the Hawaii way.  Who knew? Not me. But I complied.

It's been two years now since the series ended and we heard that they will be removing some of the props and thought, we live here and were such huge fans we have to take the tour before they are all gone.

Waiting to start the tour! OR maybe on a break somewhere on the tour.

 The Orchid Station

I love how they spray paint pvc pipe to make it appear as rusty pipes!  I would have loved to have a career in set design...almost did...I'll save for another post;)

The following are photos from the Temple

 The Hydra Station

This is what I love about the film industry.  Turning Hawaii into Iowa or in this case turning Hawaii into Australia...which really how hard would that be.  I thought this was a nice addition to the tour, adding restaurants that were used in LOST.  This was from the scene where Sawyer killed the "real" Sawyer...da da da daaaaa. The food was....ok...but pretty heavy and the whole van was about ready for a nap.
Submarine location

Do you remember this scene??  It's where Kate and Sawyer go for a swim to find several bodies of the passengers on the Oceanic flight.  I know, morbid.

The site where Oceanic crashed.  I believe they removed the fuselage after season 2.

My hubs hikes the ridges of the Ko'olau's every week and has never come home with an injury like this....did I mention this was a guided tour?

Ahhhhh.....smoke monster!!!! Notice it's the girl saving the boy.  A career infront of the cameras? Probably not.  Behind the scenes? Maybe, my hubs and I are quite the creative team. One just never knows.  If the Air Traffic Control thing doesn't work out...we'll give it a whirl.

RUN!!!! Can we get much cooler?  I think not.

Location where the beach camp was set up.

Shaka!

All and all it was a good tour.  The tour guide was very knowledgeable of all aspects of the LOST series.  He was in an episode of LOST and shared his exciting...or really not exciting story.  Lot's of hurry up and wait in  show biz.  However, eight hours of riding in the car makes for a long day.  The most interesting part of the tour was the orchid station and the polar bear cages.  We probably could have skipped a large portion of the tour but it was fun to see all of these sites and relate them to different scenes.  We've passed by so many of these places and had no idea that was where this scene or that scene was filmed it made things a little more interesting.
