Wow, where to start on this one....this week on Moments that Define Life's Listable Life I chose 5 Things I Would Have Done Differently In High School. Ouch, do I really want to dredge up all those horrible high school insecurities? Why yes I do, because I love listable life, it's my weekly therapy. :) In all honesty my high school experiences really were not that terrible but I put myself in the mindset of a teenager again and you know how everything is magnified by 1000 in that stage of life.

1. I would have listened and studied more in school. Who am I kidding? More? I didn't study at all. It wasn't until I went to college that I actually studied, paying my own tuition played a big role in that. Turns out I was an "A" student after all. Those teachers were right. If only she would apply herself. I just needed the right source of motivation...my own hard earned money was it.
2. I would have stopped obsessing over popularity or lack there of because my aunt was right, it will not matter one bit what these people think of me ten years from now (almost 20). Didn't matter at ten and really won't matter at 20.
3. I would have dusted that break-up off in a lot less time. Because that path would not have taken me down the road I wanted to be on anyway. Waste. Of. Time.
4. I always say that I am okay with the bad fashion choices I've made in the past but truth be told I think I would have tamed down those bangs just a smidge.
5. High School is a tough place for most kids. I wish that I would have had a crystal ball to see my future so that I could see a successful and fulfilling life awaits me and none of this nonsense really matters in the grand scheme of life. I'm happy that I learned from those struggles early on because it made me a stronger more independent person all around.
As we get older we learn what is important. I just hope that my kids will see past the trials and tribulations they may face better than I did and I think they will, they have a solid foundation and two very outgoing personalities which are two things I lacked.
I know I could never go back to high school. How about you?

I had a hard time coming up with things for this Listable Life. LOL so I choose another one. I'm sure there are MANY things I would have done differently in high school. But I'm one of those weird people who LOVED high school. Now middle school on the other hand.... talk about the awkward years. There are a million things I would have done differently!
ReplyDeleteI chose the same topic you did for my list! I 100% agree with you about the dusting yourself off faster after a breakup - that was sort of on my list too. More so, just wishing I never went there at all.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
This totally could have been my list! I was a crummy high school student but graduated with honors in college for the same exact reason! It's amazing what paying your own college tuition will do for motivation!
