Little Mermaid Birthday Party!

After careful consideration of the party theme, I finally decided on The Little Mermaid for my daughters 2nd birthday. Mostly because she was obsessed with watching it in the weeks prior.

The banner was my first purchase for the party. The colors were perfect.  The store is called Scrap Your Story on Etsy . She also has the cupcake toppers to match the banner, I had already made the toppers otherwise I would have definitely purchased them as well...so cute!! Much cuter than what I came up with.

After calling several grocery stores in my area, I was discouraged to find that no one had the little mermaid cake decorations in stock. So above is my pathetic attempt at Little Mermaid cupcakes, using scrapbook paper, chipboard and of course the cupcake mix. They had sugar in them so the kids didn't really care what they looked like.

Staying true to the theme, I used all tropical and seashell decoration. The Birthday Banner was found on Etsy (seller is Scrap Your Story...she is fantastic!) and even though it wasn't actually Ariel it was too cute to pass up and it seemed to match the theme very well. The menu also matched the theme. Shrimp platter=EASY; Little ham and cheese sandwiches made to look like sushi rolls=EXTREMELY DIFFICULT....ok not really difficult but very time consuming. Since I was on a time crunch that morning about half way through the platter, I whipped up some tuna salad sandwiches. No one was the wiser....WHEW!! My grandmothers famous chicken salad worked out wonderfully since the recipe calls for shell pasta. Finally the swiss cheese was cutout into starfish.

The sushi roll sandwiches were filled with cream cheese, ham, cheddar cheese (cut into strips) with a slice of cucumber.

What's a children's party without Goldfish!?

I was able to find fishbowls at Ben Franklin very inexpensively. I then filled them with iridescent grass to give the illusion of water. I added the same cupcake toppers inside the bowls. NOTE: The bowl of Goldfish on the table.

Now onto the gift bags. There is really not a whole lot to say about this. Plain white bag, with the same color ribbon which was used around the room. A circle cut tag with a little mermaid sticker. The bags were filled with all of your typical party favors.
